In many cases, expired medications have lost their potency and will not be effective when you do need them.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">How do all these little bottles accumulate? How is it possible that the expiry dates passed so long ago? This can happen for several reasons:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">The person the medicine was prescribed to started feeling better and didn\u2019t finish the dose<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\"> The medication didn&#8217;t seem to be working, so the person quit taking it early<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Over-the-counter drugs are kept \u201cjust in case\u201d and then somehow it\u2019s years later and we haven\u2019t used them<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The medication was purchased for a child or guest, who has since left the home without using it up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\"><span style=\"color: #005c84;\"><strong>Please take a minute and have a look at your own medicine cabinet.<\/strong><\/span> Are there expired medications that should be disposed of?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">It is important to remember <span style=\"color: #005c84;\"><strong>not to flush medications<\/strong><\/span> down the drain.
